Web app to tease the 2017 movie


BACKGROUND

“Overdrive” is a 2017 film from the creators of “Taken” and “2 Fast 2 Furious”, starring Scott Eastwood, Freddie Thorp, Ana de Armas and Gaia Weiss. The challenge was to create a gamified app in just one week which would tease fans with content from the film on social media.

TECHNOLOGY

In order to produce a progressive app, overriding distribution and OS complexities, we chose technology which relies on HTML, CSS and JS. This choice reduced costs significantly and allowed real-time updates to be made remotely. As the film features a lot of modern and vintage supercars, the concept was to listen to engine noises and try to match them to the cars that make them. High scores were shared on Facebook with text about the trailer.

RESULTS

The distribution house, Koch Media, felt the app had a lot of potential to engage the public, so it was built to work without an internet connection to be showcased at CineDays. More than 1,000 prizes were won, with 80 players winning the top rewards by matching various cars in a row.
