Overdrive (Koch Media)

Web app to launch the 2017 movie


BACKGROUND

“Overdrive” is a 2017 film from the creators of “Taken” and “2 Fast 2 Furious”, starring Scott Eastwood, Freddie Thorp, Ana de Armas and Gaia Weiss. The challenge was to create a gamified app in just one week which would tease fans with content from the film on social media.

TECHNOLOGY

In order to produce a progressive app, overriding distribution and OS complexities, we chose technology which relies on HTML, CSS and JS. This choice reduced costs significantly and allowed real-time updates to be made remotely. As the film features a lot of modern and vintage supercars, the concept was to listen to engine noises and try to match them to the cars that make them. High scores were shared on Facebook with text about the trailer.

RESULTS

Showcased at CineDays, the web app scored a total of 1,000 prizes won, with 80 players winning the top rewards by matching various cars in a row.
The web app also landed on Facebook and the movie ranked #2 Italy’s Box Office grossing 1,2mln euros during the first 3 weeks of distribution.
